In Europe and Asia, they refer to calories as kcal’s. 1 kcal (in Europe) = 1 calorie (in the US.)
So 197kcal is 197 calories.

kilocalories
if you see kJ- it means Kiljoulses- you get about four kilojoules for one calorie= some Euro , and Aus countries use kJ in stead of calories. both are usually labelled, on a food label- but the cal will be scond after the kJ.

kcal means kilocalorie, which is a unit of heat or energy.
In common usage, kilocalorie is also referred to as long calorie or calorie.
There are 2 definitions of calorie:
1) small calorie : This is the energy needed to increase the temperature of 1 gram of water by 1 °C
2) long calorie(kcal) : This is the energy needed to increase the temperature of 1 kilogram of water by 1 °C. It is equivalent to 1000 small calories.
In nutrition calorie always means long calorie(kcal).
So that tuna can contains 197 kilocalories(197 long calories) of energy.
You need 3000-4000 such kilocalories daily.
